Project overview

What is Classcamp?

Classcamp is a mobile product that aims to help creators build and sell interactive learning programs to their communities.

What makes Classcamp unique?

Classcamp goal is to facilitate the way course creation is published. Unlike many other platforms, the goal was to have a program selling in minutes.

Roles & Responsabilities

  • Lead the product from concept to MVP along with the CEO
  • Storyboarding and light user research
  • User Experience Design includes creating user flows and wireframes
  • Designed high-quality mockups to help validate the product to stakeholders and investors.
  • Light branding work

Research

Problem

Digital creators want a better way to grow their businesses by sharing knowledge with their communities.

Goal

Create an MVP to help creators sell interactive learning experiences from anywhere.

Understanding the experience

Drawing a storyboard helps us identify key moments in the experience of creating a program and publishing it.

Storyboard

The storyboard established a shared vision with stakeholders and revealed issues and key screens early in the product development process

Issues

  • “Is there WIFI or cell data to publish the program?”
  • “How often should we facilitate the communication between the creator and the community?"
  • “How can we simplify the program marketing process?”
  • "Is it an async or cohort experience?"

The storyboard forced discussion and helped narrow the app scope for the MVP.

Personas

Based on the storyboard, we identified the two main participants in the story.

We used proto-personas to help us stay anchored on the users and avoid letting our desire for features trump user needs.

User flows

User flows for each key interaction help us identify key actions within the app and the screens to focus on first.

Execution

Branding & Identity

Designing a light brand identity for the product and app was necessary.  Our goal was to make sure the visual language and consistency were king, to make the product stand out.

High fidelity mockups

High fidelity screens established a realistic experience to encourage useful stakeholder feedback.

Results

Closure

The core product design and prototype revealed positive feedback from all stakeholders. Classcamp had more than 200 creators on the waiting list ready to grow their businesses. Unfortunately, the technologies used didn't allow for a good user experience. The decision was made to close the company and the product.

Learnings

  1. Document your process every day. All your thoughts and ideas should live in one single organized place. Keep a tight leash on everything you do.
  2. A single drop of disbelief and lack of excitement can destroy your team. Do your best to keep all team members engaged in your design process.
  3. When building an MPV engage with your users as soon as possible. User interviews, feedback sessions, product wishlist. Keep an open channel with your audience.
